MAIN THEME:
Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry in Nigeria: Refocusing Engineering Discipline
OBJECTIVES:
Faculty of Engineering, Bayero University Kano, Nigeria, as part of its efforts toward improving engineering training and research in various engineering disciplines in Nigeria, is organizing the second National Engineering Conference on Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry in Nigeria. The Academia-Industry Conference (ACICon2016) provides a forum for interaction between stakeholders in the Academia and the Industry in relation to deployment of results of Research and Development (R & D) from the Universities and Research Institutions by the Industrial and Domestic sectors around the globe.
The conference is thus for the exchange of experience in practical application of recent technological development towards solving industrial problems; provide an excellent opportunity to discuss the curriculum of Engineering programs and refocus researches to meet the demands of the industry; discuss ways to enhance entrepreneurship education in engineering so as to sow the seeds of self-reliance and industriousness in graduates; highlight collaboration opportunities between the Academia and Industry; discuss important issues on intellectual property rights, research funding, and innovations in engineering and technology; and provide a forum for Universities and other Research Institutions to show-case their R & D efforts.
The conference invites contributions from researchers, engineers, government officials, stakeholders and regulators in the Nigerian educational system and actors in the industry to bridge the gap between the Academia and Industry in terms of utilization of R&D efforts from the later by the former and to seek ways for collaboration not only for a more effective efforts between the two but also to help develop a more effective and result-oriented curriculum for engineering education and to help groom graduates to meet the challenges of becoming self-reliant and industrious and thus keep unemployment to the barest minimum and more effectively meet the demands of the society, thus contributing to National development.
SUB-THEMES
The sub-themes for the conference include but not limited to the following:
- Refocusing Engineering Curriculum to serve the Needs of the Industries;
- Entrepreneurship Education in Engineering;
- Tailoring Research to the meet the Needs of the Industries;
- Post-graduation Training and Continuing Professional Development in Engineering;
- Continuing Professional Development in Engineering;
- Collaboration and Linkages between Universities, Research Institutes and Regulatory Bodies;
- Intellectual Property Rights in Engineering;
- Funding of Engineering Education in Nigeria; and
- Innovations in Engineering and Technology.
Date of Conference: 6th to 8th of Dec, 2016
Venue: Bayero University, Kano.
SUBMISSION OF CONFERENCE PAPER:
Authors are invited to submit full manuscript paper on or before 21st Oct, 2016. The paper should be submitted to the LOC secretary through [email protected]. The paper should clearly state the abstract, objectives, methodology, results and conclusions to enable the scope and nature of the paper to be assessed. Authors will be notified of acceptance on or before 15th Nov, 2016. Deadline for submission of corrected papers and payment: 22nd Nov, 2016.

The Faculty of Engineering, Bayero University, will also use this opportunity to include activities marking the 31st Anniversary of the creation of the Faculty during the Conference period and a meeting of the members of the Alumni of the Faculty.
